Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Loose or burnt fan connector, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the fan. Moving fan blades can cause injury.

Steps:

  • Listen for the fan: With the doors closed and the unit powered (briefly), you should normally hear a soft fan noise from the freezer or rear of the fridge. If silent or grinding, suspect the fan.
  • Access the evaporator fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel in the freezer (or refrigerator, depending on model) to expose the fan assembly.
  • Check for ice buildup: If the fan is encased in ice, defrost the area completely by unplugging the unit and leaving doors open. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
  • Inspect the fan: Spin the blades by hand; they should move freely without scraping. Check the wiring connector for burns or looseness.
  • Test the motor: With the fan disconnected and the unit unplugged, measure motor winding resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Replace the fan motor: Install a Sharp-compatible evaporator fan motor assembly, ensuring correct orientation and secure mounting.

If E8 persists with a new fan and good wiring, the main control board’s fan driver may be defective and require replacement.
