Possible Causes

Air damper flap stuck open, Failed refrigerator compartment thermistor reading too warm, Main control board not regulating damper

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior covers.

Steps:

  • Check temperature settings: Ensure the fridge is not set to the coldest setting. Adjust to mid-range and monitor.
  • Locate the damper: Find the air outlet from the freezer into the fridge (often behind a plastic grille). Remove the cover to inspect the damper.
  • Inspect damper operation: Manually move the damper flap. It should move freely and not be broken. If stuck open, replace the damper assembly.
  • Check refrigerator thermistor: Test the fresh food thermistor for correct resistance. Replace if out of spec.

If the damper and thermistor are good but overcooling persists, the main control board may be miscontrolling airflow and should be evaluated by a technician.
