Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain tube, Frozen drain hole under evaporator, Cracked or misaligned drain pan, Excessive condensation from door gasket leaks
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels. Use towels to catch water.
Steps:
- Locate the leak source: Check if water is coming from inside the fresh food or freezer compartment, or from the rear bottom area.
- Clear defrost drain: Remove the rear interior panel in the freezer to access the evaporator tray and drain hole. If filled with ice, melt it with warm water (turkey baster) until water flows freely down the drain.
- Flush the drain tube: From inside, flush warm water down the drain. From the rear, locate the drain tube above the drain pan and ensure it is not clogged or kinked.
- Inspect drain pan: Check the plastic drain pan above the compressor for cracks or misalignment. Replace if damaged.
- Check door gaskets: Ensure doors seal properly to reduce excess frost and defrost water.
