Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice blocking fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness in cabinet, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from mains before removing internal panels.

Steps:

  • 1. Listen for fan operation: With doors closed for a few minutes and compressor running, you should normally hear a gentle fan noise. If silent, proceed with checks (after unplugging).
  • 2. Access the evaporator fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear inner panel. The fan is mounted above or in front of the evaporator coil.
  • 3. Check for ice obstruction: If the fan is encased in ice, fully defrost the unit. Ice build-up can stop the fan and trigger E11.
  • 4. Test fan motor: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Also inspect for burnt smell or discoloration.
  • 5. Inspect wiring: Follow the fan wires to the harness. Look for pinched or broken sections, especially where they pass through the cabinet.
  • 6. Replace fan motor: Install a new Siemens-specified evaporator fan motor, ensuring correct orientation and that the blades do not rub against the housing.
  • 7. Control board check: If a known-good fan does not run and wiring is intact, the main PCB may not be supplying power and may need replacement.

Tip: After reassembly, verify that air is blowing from vents in the refrigerator compartment when the compressor is running.
