Possible Causes
Out-of-range NTC sensor values, Incorrect sensor type fitted previously, Firmware calibration error, Short between multiple sensor lines
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before testing sensors.
Steps:
- 1. Compare displayed vs actual temperature: Place an accurate thermometer in both fridge and freezer compartments and compare to the display.
- 2. Check all NTC sensors: Test refrigerator, freezer, and evaporator sensors for correct resistance at known temperatures. Replace any that are significantly out of spec.
- 3. Inspect harness routing: Ensure sensor wires are not crushed or shorted together, especially where they pass through foam insulation.
- 4. Reset to factory settings: Use the control panel to restore factory temperature settings and clear any user offsets (refer to Siemens user manual).
- 5. Control board replacement: If all sensors and wiring are correct but E18 persists, the main PCB may have a calibration fault and require replacement.
Note: Always use Siemens-approved replacement sensors with the correct resistance curve.
