Possible Causes

Defective freezer NTC sensor, Broken or shorted sensor harness in freezer door or liner, Ice or moisture ingress into sensor housing, Faulty main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from mains power before removing panels or working near wiring.

Diagnostic steps:

  • 1. Confirm airflow and frost: Open the freezer and check for heavy frost build-up around the rear panel. Excessive ice can affect sensor readings; if present, defrost the unit fully (24 hours unplugged with doors open, towels in place) and see if E2 clears.
  • 2. Locate the freezer NTC sensor: Typically mounted behind the rear freezer panel or clipped to the evaporator tubing. Remove drawers and the rear inner panel (usually held by screws) to access.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Look for damaged wires, ice-encrusted sensor, or corroded connectors. Carefully thaw any ice with warm (not hot) air; do not use sharp tools.
  • 4. Measure sensor resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. At freezer temperature (~-18 °C), NTC values are higher than at room temperature (often 20–40 kΩ; check model spec). An open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.
  • 5. Check harness continuity: If the sensor is within spec, test continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB. Repair any broken or pinched wires, especially where they pass through cabinet walls.
  • 6. Replace faulty components: Install a new Siemens-compatible freezer NTC sensor if defective. If sensor and wiring are good but E2 persists, the main control board may need replacement.

Note: Accessing the evaporator area involves removing panels and can expose sharp metal edges; wear cut-resistant gloves.
