Possible Causes

Food residue in hidden areas, Contaminated defrost drain and drip tray, Mould growth on door gaskets, Stagnant water in drain system

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before deep cleaning and avoid harsh chemicals that can damage plastics.

  • Step 1 – Empty and clean: Remove all food and shelves. Wash interior surfaces with a solution of bicarbonate of soda and warm water.
  • Step 2 – Clean gaskets: Gently pull back door gaskets and clean the folds with mild detergent to remove trapped debris and mould.
  • Step 3 – Flush drain: Locate and flush the internal drain hole with warm water and a little disinfectant. Clean the rear drip tray above the compressor.
  • Step 4 – Air out: Leave doors open for several hours with the appliance unplugged to allow odours to dissipate.
  • Step 5 – Odour absorbers: Use activated charcoal or baking soda containers inside to absorb residual smells.
