Possible Causes

Overheated compressor due to poor ventilation, Blocked condenser coils, Faulty compressor overload protector, High ambient temperature causing thermal trip

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before cleaning or touching components at the rear.

E10 can indicate that the compressor overload protector has tripped or that the compressor is being prevented from starting.

  • Step 1 – Improve ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the refrigerator as specified in the SMEG manual (typically several centimetres at sides, top, and rear). Move the unit away from walls if necessary.
  • Step 2 – Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower panel and vacuum dust from the condenser coils and surrounding area to improve heat dissipation.
  • Step 3 – Allow cooling: Leave the unit unplugged for at least 30–60 minutes to allow the compressor and overload protector to cool down.
  • Step 4 – Restart: Plug the refrigerator back in and listen for the compressor starting. If E10 reappears and the compressor repeatedly tries and fails to start, the overload or compressor may be faulty.
  • Step 5 – Component replacement: A faulty overload protector can sometimes be replaced separately, but if the compressor itself is drawing excessive current, a sealed-system repair by a certified technician is required.
