E17 indicates a problem with the air damper or multi-flow system that regulates cold air from the freezer to the fridge.

• Step 1 – Listen for damper: When changing temperature settings, you may normally hear a faint motor noise. Silence or clicking can indicate a stuck damper.
• Step 2 – Access damper: Remove the fridge compartment rear or side cover where the air outlet is located. This usually houses the damper assembly.
• Step 3 – Check for obstructions: Look for ice buildup or foreign objects blocking the damper flap. Defrost and clear any blockage.
• Step 4 – Inspect motor and wiring: Ensure the damper motor connector is secure and that wires are intact.
• Step 5 – Replace damper assembly: If the motor is noisy, seized, or the flap is broken, replace the entire damper assembly with a SMEG-compatible part.
• Step 6 – Reassemble and test: Restore power and verify that airflow and temperature control return to normal and that E17 clears.
