Possible Causes

One or more NTC sensors drifting out of calibration, Poor sensor placement or contact, Firmware miscalibration, Intermittent wiring connections

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing internal sensors or control boards.

E18 suggests that the control board is detecting inconsistent or out-of-range temperature sensor data.

  • Step 1 – Verify with thermometer: Place an accurate fridge thermometer in both compartments to compare actual temperatures with displayed values.
  • Step 2 – Inspect sensors: Check fridge, freezer, and evaporator sensors for secure mounting and good contact with surfaces. Reposition if loose.
  • Step 3 – Check connectors: Reseat all sensor connectors at the main PCB to eliminate intermittent contacts.
  • Step 4 – Replace suspect sensor: If one area shows large deviation from actual temperature, replace that compartment's NTC sensor with a SMEG-approved part.
  • Step 5 – Control board calibration: If all sensors are new and wiring is sound but E18 persists, the main PCB may require replacement or firmware update by an authorised service centre.
