Possible Causes
Stuck thermostat (mechanical models), Shorted fridge compartment NTC sensor, Misplaced sensor not sensing air correctly, Faulty main PCB temperature control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing controls or sensors.
- Step 1 – Check settings: Ensure the temperature setting is not on maximum cold or super-cool mode.
- Step 2 – Inspect sensor/thermostat: For electronic models, locate the fridge NTC sensor and ensure it is correctly positioned in its housing and not touching the evaporator directly. For mechanical models, check the thermostat capillary bulb is properly mounted.
- Step 3 – Replace faulty control: If the thermostat does not cycle off or the sensor tests shorted, replace the thermostat or NTC sensor with a SMEG-compatible part.
- Step 4 – PCB evaluation: If new sensors/thermostat do not correct the issue, the main PCB may be overdriving the compressor and should be replaced by a technician.
