Possible Causes
Frozen water line in door, Blocked or expired water filter, Faulty dispenser microswitch, Failed dispenser section of inlet valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and close the water supply before working on water lines.
- Step 1 – Check water supply and filter: Confirm the supply valve is open and replace the water filter if it is old or clogged.
- Step 2 – Test for freezing: Open the freezer door and feel the dispenser area; if very cold, the line may be frozen. Defrost the door area by leaving the unit off for several hours.
- Step 3 – Check dispenser switch: Press the dispenser lever and listen for a click or valve hum. If silent, the microswitch or control may be faulty.
- Step 4 – Replace valve or switch: If the valve coil tests open or the microswitch is defective, replace the faulty component with SMEG-approved parts.
