Possible Causes

Defective magnetic reed switch or mechanical door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken or pinched door switch wiring, Faulty input circuit on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing any trim or switch housings.

Identify the door sensor type:

  • Some Summit models use a mechanical plunger switch in the door frame; others use a hidden magnetic reed switch with a magnet in the door.

Mechanical switch checks:

  • Press the switch by hand; the interior light should turn on/off (when powered).
  • Remove the switch from the liner and inspect wiring for damage.
  • Test continuity with a multimeter while pressing and releasing the switch.

Magnetic switch checks:

  • Verify the door closes fully and the magnet is present and aligned with the sensor area.
  • Inspect the gasket and hinges for misalignment causing the door not to close completely.

Repair: Replace a faulty door switch or damaged magnet with the correct Summit part. If switches and alignment are good but E10 persists, the main control board may be misreading the input and require replacement.
