Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing any panels or shelves.
Locate the freezer sensor: On many Summit freezers, the thermistor is mounted on the rear wall or near the evaporator cover behind a small plastic housing.
- Access the sensor: Remove freezer shelves and the rear interior panel if necessary. Carefully detach the sensor cover.
- Inspect wiring: Look for signs of ice damage, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector.
- Test the thermistor: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the sensor leads. Compare to the expected value in the service manual (resistance should change with temperature). An open or shorted reading indicates failure.
- Check connector at board: At the rear control compartment, verify the freezer sensor connector is fully seated on the main PCB.
Replacement: Replace the freezer thermistor if testing shows it is defective. If a known-good sensor does not clear E2, the main control board may be faulty and should be replaced by a professional.
