Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Defective inverter board (on inverter-driven models), Loose harness between main board and compressor module, Locked or seized compressor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator. Do not attempt sealed system repairs or refrigerant handling without proper certification.

Basic checks:

  • Listen for compressor: When powered, does the compressor attempt to start (clicking) or remain silent? Frequent clicking suggests a start device issue.
  • Inspect start components: Access the compressor compartment at the rear bottom. Remove the cover over the compressor terminals to expose the start relay/PTC or inverter module.
  • Check connections: Ensure all connectors are firmly seated on the compressor and module.

Test start relay/PTC (non-inverter models):

  • Remove the relay and shake it gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, replace it.
  • Check continuity across the relay terminals with a multimeter; an open circuit indicates failure.

Inverter models:

  • Visually inspect the inverter board for burn marks or bulging components.
  • Verify the DC supply from the main board to the inverter (requires live testing; recommended for technicians only).

When to call a professional: If the compressor is drawing locked-rotor current, is extremely hot, or E5 persists after replacing the start device/inverter, the compressor or main control may be defective. Sealed system work should be done by a licensed technician.
