Refrigerator compartment too warm while compressor runs frequently; error E1 shown on display.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Vestfrost refrigerator from the mains before removing panels or handling wiring. Do not work on live circuits.
Steps to check and address E1 (fridge sensor):
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 returns after a few minutes of operation, continue with diagnosis.
- Locate the refrigerator NTC sensor: On most Vestfrost models, the fridge sensor is behind a small plastic cover on the rear interior wall or near the air outlet from the evaporator cover. Remove shelves and the cover carefully.
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for broken insulation, corroded connectors, or a sensor that has come loose from its clip. Reseat the connector firmly into the harness.
- Test the sensor with a multimeter: With the fridge unplugged, disconnect the NTC sensor from the harness. Measure resistance at room temperature (around 20–25°C). Typical Vestfrost NTC sensors read roughly 4–10 kΩ at room temperature (check service data if available). If the reading is open (infinite) or shorted (near 0 Ω), the sensor is faulty.
- Check harness continuity: If the sensor tests OK, check continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB connector using a multimeter. Repair or replace damaged wiring or corroded terminals.
- Replace the refrigerator NTC sensor: If defective, install a new Vestfrost-compatible refrigerator compartment NTC sensor, clip it back in the original position (not touching the evaporator directly unless designed to), and refit covers.
- Control board check: If a known-good sensor and wiring still trigger E1, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
When to call a professional: If you are not comfortable using a multimeter or accessing the main PCB, contact an authorized Vestfrost service center.
