Possible Causes
Failed magnetic reed switch or mechanical door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Damaged door switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing door switch assemblies or trim.
Steps:
- Identify switch type: Viking refrigerators may use mechanical plunger switches or hidden magnetic reed switches in the cabinet frame.
- Check operation: For plunger switches, press the switch by hand and listen for a click; for magnetic switches, hold a magnet near the sensor area and observe if lights and fans respond.
- Inspect magnet alignment: On models with hidden switches, ensure the door magnet (often in the gasket or door frame) is present and aligned with the sensor.
- Continuity test: Remove the switch and test for continuity with a multimeter while actuating it. Replace if it does not open/close properly.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the switch to the control board for pinched or broken wires.
Corrective action: Replace the faulty door switch or magnet. After replacement, restore power and verify that the interior lights, fans, and door alarm operate correctly.
