Possible Causes
Failed dual or triple water inlet valve, Clogged inlet screen, Low household water pressure, Frozen water line in door or cabinet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before disconnecting any water lines.
Steps:
- Check water supply: Confirm the household shutoff valve is fully open and supply line is not kinked.
- Inspect inlet valve screen: Pull the refrigerator out, disconnect the water line at the valve, and inspect the inlet screen for debris. Clean or replace as needed.
- Test valve coils: With power disconnected, measure resistance of each solenoid coil. Compare to Whirlpool specs (typically 150–350 ohms). Replace the valve if a coil is open.
- Check for frozen lines: Feel the water line in the freezer door or under the freezer floor. If frozen, gently warm the area and verify door gaskets are sealing to prevent re-freezing.
- If the valve and lines are good but E7 persists, check wiring from the main control to the valve and replace the control if it is not sending power during a fill test.
