Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup around fan, Loose or damaged fan wiring, Main control board fan output failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the refrigerator before removing the freezer rear panel.
Steps:
- Access evaporator fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- Check for ice obstruction: If the fan blades are encased in ice, defrost the area with a hair dryer on low, moving constantly.
- Spin test: Ensure the fan blade spins freely by hand. If stiff or seized, replace the fan motor.
- Test motor resistance: Disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates failure.
- Inspect wiring: Verify the harness is intact and firmly connected to the motor and main control.
- If the motor and wiring are good but the fan does not receive power when the compressor runs, replace the main control board.
