Refrigerator has strong chemical or burning plastic smell when running.

Safety First: Immediately unplug the refrigerator and do not continue to operate it until the source is identified.

Steps:

• Inspect rear compartment: Remove the rear panel and look for burnt wiring, melted plastic, or discoloration on the main control board and compressor start components.
• Check inside freezer: Remove the evaporator cover and inspect the defrost heater area for melted packaging or plastic that may have fallen onto the heater.
• Replace damaged parts: Any burnt wiring, control boards, or start devices must be replaced. Use Whirlpool OEM parts and proper wire connectors.
• If you cannot locate the source, contact a qualified technician before restoring power.
