Possible Causes
Failed ambient NTC sensor near control panel, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged wiring from ambient sensor to PCB, Faulty main control board (PCB)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before removing the control panel or top cover.
Check the ambient sensor:
- Locate sensor: On many Zanussi models, the ambient sensor is located near the top front, behind the display/control panel or in a small grille on the cabinet front.
- Remove control panel: Carefully unclip or unscrew the control fascia to access the sensor and wiring. Do not pull hard on the ribbon cables.
- Inspect sensor and connector: Look for discoloration, corrosion, or loose fit. Reseat the connector.
- Test resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values. Replace if open or shorted.
- Check harness to PCB: Ensure the harness from the sensor to the main board is intact and not pinched.
- Replace faulty parts: Install a new ambient NTC sensor if defective. If the sensor is good but E5 persists, the main PCB may need replacement.
Note: Incorrect ambient sensing can cause poor temperature regulation and excessive running. If unsure, seek professional service.
