Possible Causes

Grass clippings jammed under blade disc, Foreign object blocking cutting disc, Worn or seized cutting motor bearings, Overgrown or too tall grass causing overload

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the main power switch OFF, remove the battery pack if accessible per Makita instructions, and remove the mower from the charging station. Wear cut‑resistant gloves.

  • Inspect the cutting disc: Flip the mower on its side on a soft surface. Check the Makita blade disc and pivoting blades for string, wire, stones, or packed grass. Remove all debris carefully.
  • Check blade condition: If blades are bent, chipped, or heavily worn, replace them with genuine Makita robot mower blades and new mounting screws. Ensure all blades pivot freely.
  • Spin the disc by hand: Rotate the cutting disc. It should turn smoothly without grinding. If it feels stiff or seized, the cutting motor or its bearings may be failing.
  • Reduce grass height: If the lawn is very tall or wet, pre‑cut with a conventional mower, then restart the robot on a higher cutting height setting.
  • Reset and test: Return the mower upright, switch power ON, clear the E1 error according to the user manual, and start a short test run.

If the error returns immediately and the disc is free, the cutting motor or control board should be tested and replaced by a Makita service technician.
