Possible Causes
Dirty or corroded charging contacts on mower, Dirty or bent contacts on charging station, Faulty charging PCB in station, Degraded Makita lithium-ion battery pack
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect the charging station from mains power before cleaning contacts.
- Inspect charging contacts: Check the metal contacts on both the mower and the station for dirt, grass sap, or corrosion.
- Clean contacts: Use a soft brush and a cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to clean the contacts. Do not use abrasive tools that can remove plating.
- Check alignment: Place the mower in the station and verify that the contacts line up and press firmly together. Adjust the station position on the ground if needed.
- Check power supply: Confirm the station’s power adapter is firmly plugged in and the outlet has power. Inspect the cable for damage.
- Battery age: If the mower is several seasons old and runtime has decreased significantly, the Makita battery pack may be at end of life.
- Test after cleaning: Reconnect mains, dock the mower, and watch for normal charging indicators. Clear E5 and attempt a start.
If E5 persists with clean contacts and known-good power, the battery pack or charging station electronics likely require replacement by a Makita service provider.
