Possible Causes
Lift sensor switch stuck, Lift sensor wiring harness damaged, Debris under chassis affecting lift sensor, Deformed chassis causing false lift detection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the main switch and remove the mower from the charging station. Wear cut-resistant gloves when working near the blade disc.
- Check mower placement: Ensure the mower is on level ground and fully supported on its wheels, not resting on obstacles or ramps.
- Clean underside: Turn the mower on its side (with power OFF). Remove packed grass, mud, or debris around the chassis edges and near any visible lift sensor levers or switches.
- Inspect lift sensor: On many McCulloch models, the lift sensor is a small switch or tilt mechanism mounted to the chassis. Verify that its lever moves freely and is not bent or jammed.
- Check wiring: Follow the lift sensor cable to the main PCB. Confirm the connector is firmly seated and that the cable is not pinched or cut.
- Reset and test: Return the mower upright, turn the main switch ON, and restart. If E3 persists, the lift sensor or main board input may be faulty and should be tested and replaced by a service center.
