Possible Causes
Worn blade motor bearings, Loose blade or mounting bolt, Damaged drive gearbox, Foreign object contacting blade or deck
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately turn the mower OFF if abnormal noise occurs. Wait for the blade to stop completely before inspection.
- Inspect for foreign objects: Turn the mower on its side and look for stones, branches, or metal objects under the deck. Remove any debris.
- Check blade tightness: Using the correct tool, ensure the blade bolt is tightened to the torque specified in the manual.
- Spin blade by hand: With power OFF, rotate the blade. Listen and feel for grinding or wobble, which indicates bearing or motor issues.
- Check drive wheels: Spin each wheel and listen for grinding from the gearbox. Replace the drive motor/gearbox if noisy.
- Do not operate with persistent grinding: Continued use can cause further damage; have the motor or gearbox replaced.
