Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the main switch on the Stihl iMOW to OFF and remove the docking station power plug before touching any wiring.
- Check docking station LEDs: On most Stihl iMOW bases, a steady green LED indicates a healthy loop. If the LED is off or red, the loop is faulty.
- Inspect perimeter wire connections: Open the docking station cover and verify both ends of the perimeter wire are firmly clamped in the designated terminals. Tighten any loose screws and ensure no corrosion is present.
- Walk the perimeter: Follow the perimeter wire around the lawn. Look for visible cuts, damage from garden tools, pet chewing, or rodent damage. Pay special attention to flowerbed crossings and path edges.
- Test for a break: If no obvious damage is visible, disconnect both ends of the wire from the docking station and use a simple continuity tester or multimeter set to resistance to confirm the loop is continuous. Infinite resistance indicates a break.
- Repair the wire: If you find a break, strip about 10–12 mm of insulation from both ends and reconnect using Stihl-approved waterproof perimeter wire connectors. Press firmly until the gel seals the joint.
- Re-seat in docking station: Reconnect the loop ends to the base station terminals as per the installation manual (IN and OUT). Restore power and confirm the base LED returns to green and the E1 code clears.
If the loop is intact but the base LED still indicates a fault, the docking station’s loop generator board may be defective and should be tested or replaced by a Stihl service dealer.
