Possible Causes
Mower operating on slope beyond specification, Uneven ground causing frequent tipping, Faulty tilt sensor on main PCB, Loose chassis components affecting sensor calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the mower OFF before handling. Avoid standing in front of the mower on slopes.
- Check slope angle: Verify that the area where the error occurs is within the maximum slope specified for your Stihl iMOW model (often around 35–40%). Steeper areas should be fenced off with perimeter wire or maintained manually.
- Inspect ground conditions: Look for holes, ruts, or raised roots that may cause the mower to tilt excessively. Level or fill these areas where possible.
- Check wheel condition: Inspect drive wheels for excessive wear or missing lugs that could reduce traction and stability. Replace worn wheels.
- Reboot and test on flat area: Move the mower to a flat section of lawn, switch ON, and start a manual mowing cycle. If E5 appears even on flat ground, the tilt sensor or main PCB may be faulty.
Persistent E5 on level ground requires professional diagnosis of the tilt sensor and control electronics at a Stihl service center.
