Possible Causes
Front bumper stuck or jammed, Bumper spring or travel switch misaligned, Dust or debris in bumper travel path, Bumper infrared sensor failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Power OFF the robot and remove it from the dock.
Procedure:
- Check bumper movement: Gently press the front bumper in and release. It should move freely and spring back evenly across its width.
- Clean the bumper gap: Use compressed air or a soft brush to remove dust, hair, or debris from the gap between the bumper and the body.
- Inspect for physical damage: Look for dents, cracks, or misalignment that could cause the bumper to stick.
- Tap test: With the robot powered ON (but not cleaning), gently tap the bumper and listen for click sounds from the internal switches. Lack of clicking may indicate a failed bumper switch assembly.
- Reset the robot: Turn OFF for 30 seconds, then ON again.
- Test in open area: Start a cleaning cycle in a clear space and observe bumper response when it meets obstacles.
- If E5 persists: Open the top cover (if comfortable and warranty allows) and inspect the bumper switch board and wiring. Replace the front bumper sensor assembly or bumper switch PCB if damaged.
