Possible Causes
Dust on underside IR cliff sensors, Damaged cliff sensor window, Faulty IR emitter/receiver on sensor board, Loose sensor harness connection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the robot OFF and keep it away from stairs while testing.
- Clean cliff sensors: Locate the small dark windows on the underside near the front edge. Wipe each gently with a dry, lint‑free cloth. Do not use sprays directly on the sensors.
- Inspect for damage: Check for cracks, deep scratches, or missing sensor windows. Physical damage usually requires part replacement.
- Test on a flat, light‑colored floor: Place the robot in the center of a bright, flat area and start a clean. If it immediately reports F5, the sensor may not be reading correctly.
- Check for bright sunlight: Strong direct sunlight can interfere with IR sensors. Test in a shaded room.
- Service or replace sensor board: If cleaning and environmental changes do not help, the underside sensor PCB or wiring harness may need replacement by a service center.
