Possible Causes
Dust covering infrared cliff sensors, Damaged cliff sensor windows, Cliff sensor wiring loose, Failed cliff sensor module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the robot OFF.
- Locate cliff sensors: On the underside, find the small infrared windows near the front and sides.
- Clean sensor windows: Use a soft, dry cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe each sensor window. Do not scratch or press hard.
- Check for physical damage: Ensure the plastic windows are not cracked or pushed in.
- Test on a flat surface: After cleaning, power on the robot and test it on a flat floor away from stairs.
If C8 continues: One or more cliff sensors may have failed and need replacement. This involves opening the bottom shell and swapping the cliff sensor board.
