Possible Causes

Hair and fibers wrapped around main brush ends, Debris jammed in brush housing, Worn main brush bearings, Faulty main brush motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch the robot OFF and remove it from the dock.

  • Remove the main brush: Open the brush guard on the underside. Lift out the Hoover main roller brush.
  • Clean brush and end caps: Remove hair and threads from the bristles and especially from the end caps. Many Hoover brushes have removable end caps—pull them off and clean the shafts thoroughly.
  • Clean brush housing: Vacuum or wipe out dust and debris from the brush channel and suction inlet.
  • Inspect bearings: Check that the brush end caps spin freely. If they feel rough or seized, replace the main brush.
  • Reassemble: Refit the brush, ensuring the keyed ends are fully seated in their sockets, and close the brush guard securely.
  • Test: Start a cleaning cycle and listen for abnormal grinding or squealing.
  • If E4 persists: The main brush motor or its gearbox may be worn. Replace the main brush motor assembly (requires removing bottom cover, disconnecting motor wires, and installing a new unit).
