Possible Causes

Main brush jammed with hair or debris, Main brush bearings seized, Main brush motor failing, Main brush gearbox obstructed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the robot OFF using the power switch (if present) and remove it from the charging dock. Do not work on the unit while it is powered or charging.

  • 1. Remove the main brush: Turn the robot upside down on a soft surface. Release the main brush cover latches and lift off the cover. Pull out the main brush.
  • 2. Clean the brush thoroughly: Use the supplied cleaning tool or scissors to cut away hair, threads, and pet fur from the bristles and the ends of the brush. Make sure the brush bristle area and spiral fins are free of debris.
  • 3. Clean brush end caps and bearings: Remove the end caps (if removable) and clear any hair wrapped around the brush shafts and inside the end caps. Wipe with a dry cloth.
  • 4. Inspect the brush housing: Check the main brush cavity and the drive slot for debris, small toys, or buildup that could restrict rotation. Remove any obstructions.
  • 5. Check brush motor resistance: Gently rotate the brush drive socket by hand (where the brush inserts). It should turn smoothly with slight resistance. If it feels stuck or grinds, the main brush motor or gearbox may be failing.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Reinstall the brush and cover, power the robot ON, and start a cleaning cycle. If E1 returns immediately after cleaning, the main brush motor assembly likely needs replacement.
  • 7. Replace part if needed: If the error persists after thorough cleaning, replace the iHome main brush motor assembly or main brush module compatible with your model.
