Possible Causes
Debris jammed in wheel well, Drive wheel encoder contaminated, Drive wheel motor worn or seized, Broken drive wheel spring or suspension
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the robot and remove it from the dock. Avoid pressing the power button while working on the wheels.
- 1. Inspect wheel wells: Turn the robot upside down. Check both drive wheels for trapped debris such as cables, carpet fibers, or pet hair wrapped around the axles.
- 2. Free the wheels: Manually push each wheel up and down to test suspension movement. Rotate each wheel forward and backward. They should move smoothly without grinding.
- 3. Clean around axles: Use tweezers or a small brush to remove hair and dirt from around the wheel axles and inside the wheel wells.
- 4. Check for physical damage: Look for cracked wheel hubs, broken springs, or bent suspension arms. Replace damaged parts.
- 5. Test operation: Power ON the robot and start a cleaning cycle on a flat surface. Observe whether both wheels drive correctly.
- 6. Replace wheel module if needed: If E3 persists and one wheel still does not move, replace the affected iHome drive wheel module (includes motor, gearbox, and encoder). This requires removing the bottom cover and unplugging the wheel harness from the main PCB.
