Possible Causes
Debris lodged behind front bumper, Bumper springs misaligned or broken, Bumper switch stuck closed, Bumper sensor cable loose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Power OFF the robot and remove it from the dock.
- 1. Check bumper movement: Gently press the front bumper in and release it across its entire width. It should move freely and spring back without sticking.
- 2. Clear obstructions: Inspect the gap between the bumper and the robot body. Use compressed air or a thin plastic card to dislodge dust, hair, or small objects.
- 3. Inspect for damage: Look for cracks, bent plastic, or misaligned bumper corners that could cause binding.
- 4. Test again: Power ON the robot and start a cleaning cycle. Lightly tap the bumper to ensure it responds normally.
- 5. Internal inspection (advanced): Remove the bottom cover and carefully lift the top shell enough to see the bumper switch board or infrared bumper sensors. Verify that the bumper switch actuators are not stuck and that the bumper harness is firmly connected to the main PCB.
- 6. Replace bumper assembly: If E5 persists and the bumper is physically free, replace the iHome front bumper assembly or bumper sensor board.
