Possible Causes

Cliff sensors dirty or covered, Very dark or black flooring confusing sensors, Robot operating near stairs or ledges, Faulty cliff sensor board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the robot off before cleaning sensors. Do not operate near open stairways without railings.

Steps to resolve:

  • Clean cliff sensors: Locate the cliff sensors (dark windows on the underside front and sides). Wipe each with a dry microfiber cloth. For stubborn dirt, lightly dampen the cloth with water and dry immediately.
  • Check for stickers or tape: Ensure no decorative stickers, tape, or aftermarket bumpers are blocking the sensors.
  • Test on light-colored hard floor: Move the robot to a bright, light-colored, flat surface away from edges and press CLEAN. If it runs normally here, your dark carpet may be triggering the sensors.
  • Adjust environment: If dark rugs cause issues, consider moving the Home Base to a different room or using virtual walls/Keep Out Zones (for mapping models) to block problematic areas.

When to replace parts: If Error 6 occurs even on light, flat flooring after cleaning, the cliff sensor array may be failing and should be replaced.
