Possible Causes
Hair or string wrapped around main brush, Obstruction in brush housing, Worn or seized main brush end bearings, Failed main brush drive motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Power off the robot and remove it from the dock before working on the brush. Keep fingers away from moving parts.
- 1. Remove main brush: Turn the robot upside down. Release the brush guard by pressing the tabs or removing screws. Lift out the main brush.
- 2. Clear debris: Cut away hair, threads, and carpet fibers from the brush bristles and ends using scissors. Pay special attention to the ends where they sit in the bearings.
- 3. Clean brush housing: Remove any debris, dust bunnies, or foreign objects from the brush chamber and suction inlet. Check for items wedged between the brush and housing.
- 4. Inspect end caps and bearings: Remove the plastic end caps from the brush (if removable). Clean hair from the shafts and bearing surfaces. If the brush does not spin freely by hand, the bearings may be worn and the brush should be replaced.
- 5. Check brush motor gear: Look into the drive side of the brush cavity. Ensure the drive gear is not stripped or packed with debris. Gently rotate it with a finger; it should move with some resistance but not be locked.
- 6. Reassemble and test: Reinstall the brush and guard, ensuring correct orientation. Power on the robot and start a cleaning cycle. If the error returns quickly with a clean brush, the brush motor or motor driver on the PCB may be failing and require replacement.
