Possible Causes

Dirty cliff sensors, Failed infrared drop sensor, Loose sensor harness, Strong ambient light interference under the robot

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the robot OFF and keep it away from stair edges while testing.

Steps:

  • 1. Clean cliff sensors: Turn the robot upside down. Locate the downward-facing sensors near the front edge. Wipe each sensor window gently with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. If heavily soiled, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly.
  • 2. Avoid direct sunlight: Test the robot in an area without strong direct sunlight on the floor, as intense IR light can interfere with cliff sensors.
  • 3. Check for dark or reflective flooring: Very dark or highly reflective floors can be misinterpreted as a drop. Place a light-colored mat in front of the robot and see if it moves over it without error.
  • 4. Reset and test: Power the robot back on and start a cleaning cycle in a safe, flat area away from stairs. Observe whether F7 reappears.

When to call a technician: If F7 persists after cleaning and testing in different lighting, one or more cliff sensors or their wiring may be defective. Replacement of the cliff sensor module should be done by a service technician.
