Possible Causes

Dust on cliff sensors, Cliff sensor IR LED/receiver failure, Cliff sensor harness loose, Robot used on reflective or black flooring confusing sensors

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the robot OFF and remove it from the dock. Do not work on the robot while it is charging.

Clean the cliff sensors:

  • Turn the robot upside down. Locate the cliff/anti-drop sensors—usually 3–6 small dark windows along the front and sides of the underside.
  • Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to wipe each sensor window thoroughly. Do not use harsh chemicals; if needed, lightly dampen the cloth with water and dry completely.
  • Use compressed air (optional) to blow out dust from sensor recesses.

Check the environment:

  • Avoid using the robot on highly reflective floors (glossy black tiles, mirrors) or very dark carpets near stairs; these can confuse IR sensors.
  • Ensure there is adequate ambient light; some models struggle in very bright direct sunlight or complete darkness.

Reset and test:

  • Turn the main power switch OFF for 30 seconds, then ON again.
  • Place the robot on a flat, light-colored floor away from stairs and start a cleaning cycle.

Advanced check: If the error appears immediately, the cliff sensor harness may be loose. Opening the unit to reseat the harness on the mainboard is possible but should be done only if you are comfortable with electronics. Otherwise, contact service.
