Possible Causes

Stuck front bumper, Broken bumper spring, Dust blocking infrared obstacle sensors, Disconnected bumper switch harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the robot OFF before manipulating the bumper.

  • 1. Check bumper movement: Gently press the front bumper in and release it. It should move freely and spring back without sticking.
  • 2. Remove debris: Inspect the gap between the bumper and the body for crumbs, cables, or small objects. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clear the gap.
  • 3. Clean IR windows: Wipe the small dark plastic windows along the front bumper with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints.
  • 4. Sensor test: Power the robot ON and start a cleaning cycle while holding it. Gently tap the bumper; the robot should react by changing direction. If it does not, the bumper switch or wiring may be faulty.
  • 5. Internal inspection: Remove the top or front cover (depending on model) to access the bumper switch PCB and wiring. Ensure connectors are fully seated and the switch is not broken.
