Possible Causes

Main brush jammed with hair or debris, Main brush end bearings seized, Main brush motor failing, Main brush gearbox obstructed or damaged

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the robot OFF using the power switch (if present) and remove it from the charging dock. Flip the robot over onto a soft surface to avoid scratching sensors.

  • Remove the main brush: Open the brush guard latch, lift out the main brush roller.
  • Clear debris: Cut away hair, threads, and pet fur from the bristles and especially from both end caps. Spin the brush by hand; it should rotate freely.
  • Inspect end caps and bearings: Pull off removable end caps (on many Shark models they pop off). Clean hair wrapped around the shafts and inside the caps.
  • Check the brush cavity: Look inside the brush housing for lodged objects (toys, carpet fringe, etc.) and remove them.
  • Check brush motor area: With the brush removed, look into the drive slot where the motor coupler engages the brush. Remove any debris and ensure the coupler turns freely by gently rotating it with a non-metal tool.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the brush, close the guard securely, power the robot back on, and start a cleaning cycle.

If E1 returns after thorough cleaning, the main brush motor or gearbox may be failing and should be replaced or serviced by a technician.
