Possible Causes
Dirty or damaged wheel encoder disk, Failed optical encoder sensor on wheel module, Loose wheel motor connector, Faulty main PCB encoder input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Power off and remove the robot from the dock before inspection.
- 1. Clean wheel housings: Turn the robot over and clean around both drive wheels. Packed dust can block the internal encoder slots.
- 2. Reset robot: Perform a full power cycle (main switch OFF for 1 minute, then ON). Start a cleaning cycle and observe if the robot still spins or shows E05.
- 3. Inspect encoder (advanced): Remove the bottom cover and then the affected wheel module. On most SilverCrest wheel modules, an encoder disk and optical sensor are integrated. Blow out dust with compressed air; do not scratch the disk.
- 4. Check connectors: Ensure the wheel motor/encoder connector is fully seated on the main PCB and that no pins are bent or corroded.
- 5. Replace module: If E05 persists and the robot cannot drive straight, replace the faulty SilverCrest drive wheel module that contains the encoder.
