Possible Causes
One drive wheel jammed or slipping, Dirty or failed wheel encoder, Unequal wheel diameter due to wear, Cliff sensor misreading floor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the robot before inspecting wheels and sensors.
- Inspect wheels: Spin both drive wheels and ensure they move freely and feel similar in resistance.
- Clean wheel treads: Remove hair and debris from the treads and wheel wells. Ensure both wheels have similar tread wear.
- Clean cliff sensors: Wipe the underside cliff sensors with a microfiber cloth to prevent false edge detection that can cause circling.
- Test on different surfaces: Try the robot on a hard floor and a low-pile carpet to see if behavior changes.
- If circling persists: A wheel encoder or motor may be failing, or the main board may be misreading sensor data. Component replacement is required and should be done professionally.
