Robot vacuum reports 'Error 1' / voice prompt 'Error 1: Laser distance sensor error' and stops cleaning, often at startup or when mapping.

Safety first: Turn the robot OFF using the power switch (if present) and remove it from the charging dock. Do not open the LDS module housing unless you are comfortable with electronics and your warranty has expired.

• 1. Power cycle the robot:
  • Hold the power button for 5–10 seconds until the robot shuts down.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then power it back on and retry a cleaning cycle.
• 2. Clean the LDS window and turret:
  • Locate the round turret on top of the robot (the laser dome).
  • Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to gently wipe the transparent window around the turret.
  • Check for stickers, tape, or decorative covers blocking the turret and remove them.
• 3. Check for turret jamming:
  • Gently try to rotate the LDS turret with your fingers. It should spin freely with slight resistance.
  • If it feels stuck, inspect for trapped hair or debris around the base of the turret and remove it with tweezers.
• 4. Inspect LDS motor and cable (advanced):
  • Unplug the robot and remove the top cover (usually several screws under the dustbin and bumper).
  • Locate the LDS module and check that its ribbon cable is firmly seated on the mainboard and LDS board.
  • If the turret does not spin at all when starting, the LDS motor may be defective and the entire LDS module typically needs replacement.
• 5. When to stop:
  • If the error persists after cleaning and power cycling, or if the turret does not spin at startup, replace the LDS module or contact a Xiaomi service center.
