Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the HVAC system at the breaker before removing the thermostat from the wall.
- Step 1 – Power cycle: Turn off the furnace/air handler breaker for 2–3 minutes, then restore power. Check if E6 clears.
- Step 2 – Reseat thermostat: Gently pull the Amana smart thermostat off the wall plate and then firmly snap it back into place, ensuring all pins align and seat fully.
- Step 3 – Check 24V supply: With power on and using a multimeter (advanced users), measure voltage between R and C at the thermostat terminals. It should be around 24 VAC. If voltage is low or unstable, the issue may be with the Amana furnace/air handler transformer or control board.
- Step 4 – Factory reset: Use the thermostat’s settings menu to perform a factory reset (note: this will erase schedules and Wi‑Fi settings). After reset, reconfigure and see if E6 returns.
- Step 5 – Replace thermostat: If E6 persists after reset and power verification, the internal electronics are likely faulty. Replace the thermostat with a compatible Amana smart thermostat.
When to call a professional: If low or unstable 24V power is detected, an HVAC technician should inspect the Amana control board and transformer.
