Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: If any thermostat wires measure 120V or 240V with a multimeter, do not connect them to the Amazon Smart Thermostat. It is designed only for 24V systems.
- Verify system type: Check your furnace/air handler documentation. If it mentions proprietary communication (e.g., digital bus, data terminals) instead of standard R, C, W, Y, G, O/B, the system is incompatible.
- Inspect control board: Look for standard 24V thermostat terminals. If they are absent or labeled differently (e.g., ABCD bus), the thermostat cannot be used.
- Check for zone panel: If you have a multi-zone system with a zone controller, confirm with the zone panel manual that it supports standard 24V thermostats.
If E10 is displayed, do not attempt to force installation. Use a thermostat approved by the HVAC manufacturer or consult a professional.
