Possible Causes
Thermostat installed above heat source or in direct sun, Blocked ventilation slots, Internal regulator overheating due to wiring fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off HVAC power at the breaker before removing the thermostat.
- Check installation location: Ensure the thermostat is not directly above a supply register, on an exterior wall with hot plumbing, or in direct sunlight.
- Inspect for obstructions: Make sure no decorative covers or objects block airflow around the thermostat housing.
- Check wiring for shorts: Look for any wires that may be shorted or miswired, causing excessive current draw through the thermostat.
- Relocate if necessary: If installed in a poor location, consider moving the thermostat to an interior wall away from heat sources (this may require new low-voltage cable).
If E15 recurs in a proper location with correct wiring, the internal power regulator may be failing. Replace the thermostat.
