Possible Causes
Interrupted firmware update, Power loss during update, Internal flash memory failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: You can leave HVAC power off during troubleshooting to avoid repeated cycling.
- Power cycle: Turn off the HVAC breaker for 2 minutes, then turn it back on. Wait up to 5 minutes to see if the thermostat completes booting.
- Check for update in Alexa app: Open the Alexa app and see if the thermostat shows as updating or offline. If an update is pending, allow time for completion.
- Factory reset: If accessible, use the thermostat’s hardware buttons/menu to perform a factory reset. Then re-add it in the Alexa app.
If E9 persists and the thermostat never fully boots, the internal firmware storage is likely corrupted. Replace the thermostat.
