Possible Causes
Incorrect dehumidification setup, Miswired DHUM or ACC terminals, Failed dehumidification relay, Incompatible equipment configuration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to HVAC equipment at the breaker before adjusting wiring.
- Confirm dehumidification method: In installer settings, verify whether dehumidification is via AC overcooling, dedicated dehumidifier, or variable-speed blower control, and that this matches the installed American Standard equipment.
- Check DHUM wiring: Inspect the dehumidification control wiring at the thermostat and at the air handler or dehumidifier. Tighten loose terminals and correct any miswiring.
- Test basic AC operation: Ensure standard cooling works normally. If cooling is also affected, the issue may be broader than dehumidification.
Note: Persistent E16 with correct wiring may indicate a failed thermostat output; replacement may be required.
