American Standard
Dehumidification via Overcooling Not Operating
Thermostat fails to dehumidify using AC overcooling; humidity remains high
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dehumidification feature disabled, Overcooling limit set too low, Incorrect blower speed configuration, Sensor misreading humidity
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Only settings changes are required; no panel removal needed.
- Enable dehumidification: In installer or advanced settings, enable dehumidification and select AC overcooling as the method if supported by your American Standard system.
- Adjust overcooling limit: Increase the maximum overcooling allowance (e.g., up to 2–3°F below setpoint) to allow the system to run longer for dehumidification.
- Verify fan mode: Set fan mode to Auto, not On, so moisture can drain off the coil between cycles.
Note: If humidity remains high, have an HVAC technician verify system capacity and airflow.
