Possible Causes

Burnt fan relay or triac, Overloaded fan output (multi‑speed fan wired incorrectly), Short circuit on G terminal, PCB trace damage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to the air handler and thermostat at the breaker. Fan circuits carry mains or 24 V depending on system type.

  • Step 1 – Verify configuration: In the installer menu, confirm the correct fan type (on/off vs multi‑speed) is selected for your Atlantic thermostat model.
  • Step 2 – Check wiring: Inspect the G (fan) terminal wiring at the thermostat and air handler. Ensure only the correct fan control wire is connected and that it is not shorted to other terminals.
  • Step 3 – Test fan manually: Set the fan mode to On from the thermostat. If E16 appears and the fan does not run, suspect an output fault.
  • Step 4 – Measure output (advanced): With power on and extreme caution, measure voltage at the fan output when commanded on. No voltage indicates a failed driver.
  • Step 5 – Replace thermostat: If the fan driver component is burnt or non‑functional, replace the thermostat base or entire thermostat. Correct any wiring issues before reconnecting.
